Originally from the Carpathian Mountains in Poland. This Carpathian English Walnut strain of English or Persian Walnut is known for winter hardiness and late blooming in spring. The hardy carpathian walnut is a plump and well filled nut with great flavor with a lightly colored kernel. The shell is well sealed and cracks easily. The mild flavored nuts are great for fresh eating or in baked goods. This variety handles cold weather better than most walnut varieties, cold hardy to -20F. Needs pollinator, plant two seedlings for proper pollination. Prune for a central leader as necessary allowing for 4-5 large scaffolding branches.
